Frequently asked questions
you’ve got questions. we’ve got answers.
+ It's my first class. What can I expect?
Hard ass work. But don't worry - we have a very welcoming communuity and our trainers will always go through the entire class style and exercises with you before you start exercising. After the explanation and demo of the class, you can expect a quick dynamic warmup before you get to the real deal. Once the class is over, a quick cooldown and stretch will take place. If you ever have any questions during the class or need a break, go for it! Ask questions and take breaks if you need to!
On top of all this, you can most likely expect a few jokes.
+ I've never done weightlifting before. Can I still come to classes?
Absolutely! We have had people try our classes who have barely lifted a dummbbell before. You definitely don't need to be an expert but we do expect you to work hard. All are welcome - we just ask that if you are very new to exercise or have any injuries or medical conditions to let our staff know in advance.
+ I'm not very strong. Will I be able to keep up with the class?
Yes! You are free to select whichever weights you like for exercises or take breaks whenever you feel the need to. The only thing that is important is that the class flow be maintained - so if there are people behind you waiting to do the exercise, please transition through exercises quickly.
+ Do you have a beginners class?
Yes! Every 6 weeks or so we run a FREE beginners class for those who want to give it a shot and see how it goes. These classes are similar to our regularaly scheduled classes however there is a lot more explanation, longer breaks and shorter rounds. Keep an eye on our website and Instagram for upcoming beginner classes.
+ I'm not sure I want to commit with a membership. What should I do?
The absolute best option for new members is the Intro Month.
$50 for 30 days of unlimited classes with no commitment!
+ Can I just show up for a class without signing up in advance?
Technically, yes, but we wouldn't recommend it. Everyone who attends bodiesbyphil must have an account created where they have agreed to our waiver as well as fill out an exercise clearance form in person. If you would like to attend a class without signing up in advance, please arrive a minimum of 15 minutes early.
+ How far in advance can I book classes?
We have a 7 day booking window. Classes are available to book within one week of the current date.
+ I have an unpredictable schedule. Will I be able to get into classes?
We strongly recommend booking your classes as far in advance as possible to save your spots, however we understand schedules change. There will often be some last minute spots available in classes an hour or two beforehand if you prefer to schedule then.
+ How do the waitlists work?
If you book a class and get put on the waitlist, you will be in the queue to be added to class. If you get added from the waitlist, you will get an email and/or text notifying you that you were added. People get added from the waitlists leading right up to the class time so if you are no longer available for the class, we ask that you remove yourself from the waitlist. Make sure you have notifications turned on in your profile to receive waitlist promotions.
+ What is the capacity of each class?
Some class styles have different capacities:
- STRENGTH & CONDITIONING: 24
- HIIT: 16
- BOOTY: 24
- BEATDOWN: 20
- CORE: 24
- STRETCHING & MOBILITY: 24
- BOX 'N BURN: 24
+ What is your cancellation policy?
We have a 6 hour cancellation policy for classes.
If you have a membership, there is a $20 fee for those who do not cancel within 6 hours of the class time. A $30 fee applies for no shows. If you have a class pack, you will lose one of your classes in either situation.
None of these fees apply to those on intro months.
+ Do you have an app for booking classes?
+ Where can I find a list of all your class styles with descriptions?
+ I have a recovering injury - are these classes right for me?
Ultimately it comes down to the injury. If your injury inhibits you from performing most exercises, then the classes might be a bit fast paced for you. If you have a minor recovering injury, you can modify exercises as you need to. Always let the instructor know if you have any limitations because of your injury.
+ Will the instructors help me with exercise form?
Yes! Our instrutors are constantly moving around the room correcting form as they see fit. If you're not sure that you're performing an exercise correctly, just ask!
+ How many classes per week should I do?
We recommend a minimum of 2-3 classes per week to see results. We offer several different class styles that all have various benefits so it's best to do a bit of all of them to get the most bang for your buck. Seasoned members attend 4+ classes per week.
+ Will lifting weights make me bulky if i'm a woman?
NO! This is a very oldschool way of thinking and is not true at all. Our workouts (even if they focus on lifting heavy weights) will not make you bulky. They will help you increase muscle mass, lose fat, and get a lean, strong look.

live heart rate tracking
+ What is the benefit of live heart rate tracking?
The live heart rate tracking is an excellent training tool for knowing what effort level you're at. Both you and the instructor can use the live heart rates as a way of giving you an idea of where your effort level should be at given the exercise or class style. Once you complete class, you are given lots of statistics from your workout that are stored online for you to review.
+ how does the live heart rate tracking work?
During class, several members wear a wireless bluetooth chest strap heart rate monitor. These monitors relay information onto a large TV we have in the gym and displays the following information:
- Your name (or nickname of your choice)
- Current heart rate
- Percentage of max heart rate
- Calories burned
- Points earned*
After class is completed, members are sent an email with all of their stats. These stats are also stored on the members online profile to review and compare.
*Points are earned based on heart rate. The higher your heart rate, the more points per minute you earn.
+ Do you sell heart rate monitors?
Yes! You can purchase a heart rate monitor from us or bring in your own.
+ Can I try it our before I buy a heart rate monitor?
Yes! We have loaner heart rate monitors for those who'd like to give it a go. If you plan on trying a heart rate monitor, please show up at least 15 minutes before class so we have time to set it up for you.
